Virtual Explore Cavan Challenge
12 May 2020 to 30 June 2020
Cavan Sports Partnership is dedicated to keeping the children of Cavan fit & healthy and so has designed a ‘Virtual Explore Cavan Challenge’ so pupils can keep active and learn along the way.
Here in St Clare's we are going to take up this challenge.
It will be included as part of our PE homework starting Monday May 11th for the next 5 weeks
Let's have fun, run and learn about our county!
We will virtually explore as many of Cavan's towns and hills as we possibly can by accumulating steps (walking, jogging or running) within the 5k radius and skipping, jumping jacks or mountain climbs to accumulate the metres and reach the top of those hills.
We will ‘start’ in Cavan Town at all times and calculate our steps whether that is walking,
jogging or running and reach another town (1,000 steps = 1km). For example; Cavan to Bultersbridge is 7km so a total of 7,000 steps will be completed to get to Butlersbridge.

Similarly, to climb a mountain or hill in Cavan we must do Jumping Jacks, Skip or do
the Mountain Climbers exercise (1 of any of these exercises = 1 metre) to reach the top.
For example; to climb Cuilcagh which is 665metres high - 665 jumping jacks must be completed.
Distances and heights are listed on the map of Cavan.

SUPER TROOPERS
Super Troopers PE homework starts today to St Clare's. The Active School Committee has been busy distributing information to class teachers which include teacher's guides, children's journals, and family wall charts.
Super Troopers is aimed at helping children become more active and learn about healthy lifestyles.
Did you know that only one in five children currently meet the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended daily guidelines of 60 minutes of activity per day?
All children will receive a Super Trooper’s Activity Journal on Monday which includes short activities to do each night as part of their homework. Children can complete these fun activities alone or get their family & friends involved.
So come on everyone let's get moving!

ST CLARE'S SCHOOL IS GOING THE EXTRA MILE!
Today’s children are caught up in a physical
activity crisis, compromising their health
and wellbeing both now and for the future.
Experts agree that something must be done
to change lifestyles - and The Daily Mile is
a simple, free and effective answer.
The Daily Mile is a free, fully inclusive, outdoor
initiative that encourages primary school children to
walk, jog or run a mile each day in school.
It’s a simple scheme that supports classroom learning and improves
the children’s confidence, concentration and behaviour.
Most importantly, they love it!
The Daily Mile takes 15 minutes desk-to-desk and,
in that time, most will average a mile.
It’s no fuss, fun, and has a huge impact
all day and far beyond.
Our Daily Mile Initiative starts Thursday 7th November

Children from 1st to 6th class were invited to apply to join the ASF committee in October. Committee members have attended several meetings, and have been fantastically enthusiastic. NATIONAL WALKING MONTH
May is National Walking Month. National Walking Month is a campaign to promote the benefits of walking and to get everyone walking, no matter what your level of fitness is. Walking is simple and free and one of the easiest ways to be more active, lose weight and become healthier.
In St Clare's when we are visiting the swimming pool, the library, the cathedral, football pitch or anywhere local we always choose to walk rather than take a bus.
Nature Walk
We walked to the Post Office to post our letters to Santa!
Off to the townhall!
Walking to the restaurant
Walk for Water
On Thursday April 6th we took part in the Walk for Water.
We watched a video which showed how women and girls in Ethiopia have to hike up hills twice a day to collect water. This water is not even clean, it is contaminated. Here in Ireland we take our water for granted. In some countries they are not so lucky. We discovered that many children all over the world walk as much as 6KM every day, carrying 6L of water. This is to ensure they have clean drinking water. We wanted to show our support and understanding of their hardship by taking part in our walk. We walked 6KM collectively, carrying 6L of water. It was an enjoyable experience, and lucky for us, we had a bottle of water to drink after our walk, which is seldom the case for many children. We are aware of their hardship and will continue to be mindful of our water use in St Clare's

MISS DOYLES 4th CLASS ENJOY THEIR DANCE AND BASKETBALL CLASSES! Dance
Every Monday we do Dance with our instructor, Kevin. We do fun warm-ups, and Kevin has shown us lots of moves to the dance we are working on. We do partner work for some of it, where we have to work on a section of the dance with our partner, and make up some moves by ourselves. It is great fun! We are looking forward to performing our completed dance.
