Physical Education

 P.E. in St Clare's

A broad PE curriculum is delivered at all class levels.
Each class receives at least one hour of  PE per week.
We wear our tracksuits and runners on PE days.

Our class teachers, with the support of local coaches, deliver all 6 strands of the PE curriculum - Gymnastics, Dance, Aquatics, Games, Athletics  and Outdoor and Adventure Activities

If you wish to take a look at the curriculum,
it can be found on the NCCA website.

WHAT IS THE PAWS PROGRAMME?

1_PAWS-Web-Image

The PAWS (Primary Aquatics Water Safety) programme is a comprehensive educational resource for primary schools that teaches basic water safety skills. It was developed by Irish Water Safety, in partnership with The Educational Company of Ireland, and teaches children how to be safe around water in homes, farms, pools, beaches and on our waterways.
PAWS incorporates all aspects of the physical education aquatics strand of the primary school curriculum and outlines life-saving guidelines for children of all ages. The programme is very well designed and includes beautiful illustrations, a wealth of tips and advice, and all sorts of interactive games and puzzles to reinforce lessons learned. The children really enjoyed the discussions and activities included in the programme.
On completion of the programme, each class received a Primary Aquatics Water Safety Certificate from Irish Water Safety.

REGULATION STATIONS: CALMING KIDS IN THE CLASSROOM

Infant teachers, SNAs and Resource teachers took part in a Regulation Stations training. Regulation Stations is a unique system to calm kids with sensory issues, allowing them to get the best out of their school day

Regulation Stations is an easy to run and effective program where children with sensory issues complete a 20 to 30-minute circuit made up of a variety of therapy based but fun-laden activities.
The specially designed activities help children calm their mind, organise their thoughts, release their energy and return to the classroom ready to learn.

SUPER TROOPERS

At our recent Active Schools Committee meeting we decided to introduce Super Troopers to St Clares. The committee has been busy distributing information to class teachers which includes teacher's guides, childrens  journals and family wall charts.
We are starting Super Troopers this Monday 21/11/16

Super Troopers is aimed at helping children become more active and learn about healthy lifestyles.
Did you know that only one in five children currently meet the World Health Organisation (WHO)  recommended daily guidelines of 60 minutes of activity per day?

All children  will receive a Super Trooper’s Activity Journal  on Monday which includes short activities to do each night as part of their homework. Children can complete these fun activities alone or get their family & friends involved.

So come on everyone let's get moving!

SAINT CLARE'S PROMOTES

HEALTHY EATING!

We are becoming really cool Food Dudes!

Munching on fruit and vegetables doesn't always come easy to us BUT we have learned how good these foods are for our bodies.
Some of us have never tried some of these fruit and vegetables before because we thought they looked "yucky". However after doing our best to taste all the fruit and vegetables we have agreed to make a BIG BIG effort to continue to make healthy food choices.

ZOOM BOOM TRAINING

The teachers in St Clare's have been busy working towards renewing our Active Schools flag.
We have completed  Zoom Boom's PE on a Plate Programme for Teachers
As we deliver this six week programme to our classes, our pupils will have fun playing lots of games while improving key skills, coordination, core strength,  balance, flexibility muscle tone and general fitness. The activities have been developed by an occupational therapist and child development expert with specific focus on activities for children with Dyspraxia or  other motor development delays.
